Blessed Is The Man That Walketh Not.....

"Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful." (Psalm 1:1)

Does man really have any say in the way that he walks in life? I think not! God's word is clear, it is His blue print, the road map and the compass whereby we are to be guided on a daily basis. He says, "walk before me and be thou perfect..."...walk in all the ways which the Lord hath commanded you, that ye may live, and that it may be well with you, and that ye may prolong your days..." Gen.17:1; Deut.5:33. The question I ask then, if a man is not following the blueprint of that road map, then in whose ways does he walk? Is it possible that there are many out there today who are not yet walking in the ways of the Lord, who repeatedly transgress His laws, and are in violation of God's word? Sad to say, the answer is, yes.

God wants us to do right by Him. He is passionate about us and wants to bless us, but at the same time He aches at the thought and the knowledge that there are many who are still not in compliance with His word. There was a time that God winked at the ignorance of man. But if there was ever a time that mankind need to grow and mature in the word of God, and in the perfect knowledge of His will, the time is now. I know we've probably heard this said many times without the manifestation it, but I want to remind us that Jesus' coming is closer than we know. And God wants us to be ready for that day when He shall burst the clouds out of the eastern sky and descend like the true King that He is and when we will all be judged one way or the other.

'Blessedness And Praise'

The example of our walking can be found in the books of Psalm chapter 1:1. "Blessed is the man that walketh not...." Three things that are noted about the man who walks in the way that God has ordained. (1) His company or those closely associated with him - he does not walk in the counsel of the wicked/ungodly, nor stand in the path of sinners, nor sit in the seat of the scornful/scoffers. (2) Notice is taken of what he reads and the way that he thinks - all the days his delight is in the law of the Lord, he is constantly looking into the word of God, to study it and to meditate upon it day and night. [Ps.1:2] (3) His fruitfulness and what is manifested from his life from day to day - he is likened to a tree firmly planted by streams and rivers of water, and he brings forth his fruit in season and out of season. His leaves do not whither, that is, his blessings and fruitfulness remains; and all that he puts his hands to, he is successful and he prospers by it. [Ps.1:3]

'Step By Step, Walk Me Each Day Dear Lord'

"The ungodly are not so: but are like the chaff which the wind driveth away. Therefore the ungodly shall not stand in the judgement, nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous. For the Lord knoweth the way of the righteous: but the way of the ungodly shall perish." [Ps.1: 4-6]

It is my solemn prayer that when all is said and done that we are not left to stand in the ways that shall befall the man who do not walk in the ways of God. It is my prayer that God will order, re-direct and guide our steps each day, that we make the right choices and the decisions that will lift up and glorify God. You may be reading this article and is saying, it is well with my soul, but remember the brother or the sister who through their lifestyle it is evident they have not made that choice to let Jesus Christ into their heart as Lord and Saviour. We have a responsibility to them and rather than walk the other side pass them, it is for us to bring them word of God's unfailing love, His pardoning mercy and His grace of restoration and hope that they too can now begin to experience the blessing of eternal life through Jesus Christ.

Quit Looking Back And Keep It Moving Forward!

"Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things, which are before. I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus." (Philippians 3:13-14)

As a child growing up, one of the things that I learned and which remains with me to this day is, do not look back! Not only was it bad luck, I was told, but clinging to the things of the past, especially painful and hurtful things, results in unnecessary weight and baggage that sets you back in life.

And so now that I am older, it has become a guiding principle upon which my life operates on a daily basis - never allow myself to sit on the seat that says, 'I have arrived.' Through searching the scriptures, I also understand that to adhere to the things of the past, whether bad or good, is to set oneself up to be reckoned as an unspeakable loser, loosing not only that which one may have garnered, but loosing the most important aspect of one's life which is Jesus Christ our Lord.

So for today's discussion, I consulted experience and one of the experienced in the person of the Apostle Paul. He knowingly made a choice that he himself had quitted from his impressive stock and masterful accolades that was sufficient to make a case for his justification. Yet he says, "Yea doubtless, and I count all things but loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord....and do count them but dung, that I may win Christ." (v8) The Apostle here proposes himself for an example of trusting in Christ only and not anything else. He even suggested if any man could boast of their accomplishment, he had even more reason to do so, yet would not for the better which he was awaiting to gain that was far more precious and valuable than anything else he would loose.

What have I to loose? The Apostle spoke of his (a) birth right privileges - an Israelite on both sides and from one generation to another, a stock of Israel and yet a tribe of Benjamin. (b) He boast of his relations to the covenant - for he was circumcised on the eight day. (c) For learning - a Pharisee and the son of a Pharisee he was (Acts 23:6) (d) He had a blameless conversation record - teaching the righteousness which is of the law, blameless. (e) He had been an active man for his religion - concerning zeal, persecuting the church. (v5-6)

An impressive resume it was indeed! But he tells us what it was that he reached after: it was the knowledge of Christ Jesus, not an experimental acquaintance but a believing experiential relationship with Christ as his Lord. It was not a speculative but a practical knowledge of Him. He quitted his privileges as a Jew and a Pharisee by not looking back on them as anything that would add value to his present or future life but would allow his expression to rise with a holy triumph that Christ is all, in all and above all that anyone would ever need.

We do not look at the things which are seen he says, but look at the things which are not seen. For the things which are seen are temporary, but the things which are not seen are eternal. (2 Corinthians 4:18) We are not even sufficient of ourselves to think any thing as of ourselves, but our sufficiency is of God. (2 Corinthians 3:5) In other words, there is nothing in us that allows us to claim that we are capable of doing the work on our own. The capacity we have comes from God!

Let us therefore quit looking back and press our way forward. The fitter we grow for heaven, the faster we must press towards it. It is the prize of the high calling that awaits us. It is what we must aim at in all that we do or say, and what we hope for that will in the end reward all our pain and suffering. With this mind set, and the knowledge that God is in total control, He will give us the strength and the ability to face each new day.

I Hear Your Voice - But Lord, That I May See Again

God speaks to everything and everyone all the time! Why does God speak? He speaks to answer our prayers and enquiries; to guide our steps and to teach us His ways. He speaks one way or the other to turn us back from the pit and from dangerous acts or decisions; to warn us all of His judgement, disapproval or even His approval. God speaks to make known (proclaim) His will, His mighty acts and to inform us of His intentions, to reveal the past, to unfold the future and to prepare us for our part in it and to explain the present or even tell us something vital and also about ourselves. He speaks!

Before God sets rulers in power, He speaks to them. He speaks to nations to give them an opportunity to enjoy His peace and prosperity. He speaks to us His family to assure us of His love and protection and oh yes, He speaks to the demons to warn them and restrain their behaviour towards us His children!

He speaks to the heavens to to release or withhold their provisions from the earth (Hosea 2: 21) The Lord speaks to sinners to encourage them to abandon their ways for His Son's salvation and He speaks to the saint who would transgress the limits of His righteousness, thus risking His redemption. God speaks all the time, I hear His voice, but Lord, that I may see [again]!

And Jesus stood and commanded him to be brought unto him: and when he was come near, he asked him, Saying, what wilt thou that I should do unto thee? And he said , Lord, that I may receive my sight. And Jesus said unto him, Receive thy sight: thy faith hath saved thee. (Luke 18:40-42)
In the Bible, Luke gives an account of a particular man (Luke 18: 35-43) who sat by the wayside . Not only was the man poor in spirit but he was blind. And though none of the other synoptic gospels say which type of blindness the man had, it is here implied and thus believed that he was spiritually blind. Spiritual blindness by definition, I would say, is far worst than physical blindness, especially since it blocks the visions, dreams, prophecies and spiritual downloads of the plans and thoughts of God that emanates from His throne room that is so necessary to give life and substance in the physical earth realm of what we hear. In this case however, Christ shows Himself that He came not only to bring light to a dark world so as to set before us the objects of the things His people need to have in view, but also to give sight to the blind souls. Christ first cast a favourable look upon this man, for, hearing the noise of a multitude passing by, he opened his mouth and began to speak.

The life lesson to be learned is that those of us who want our sight again, should make so much better use of our hearing, and in the absence of sight from our own eyes, should by asking questions make use of other people's eyes. Indeed, the blind man articulated in this story did, and by that he came to the understanding that Jesus of Nazareth was passing by! (v37) He was hearing, he just could not see!

His prayer, a prayer that had in it a great deal of both faith and fervency, had power in it as he cried out all the more, "Jesus, thou Son of David, have mercy on me." (v38) And though he was looked upon by some as noisy and impertinent and was rebuked as being a trouble maker to the Master, he cried out all the more and even louder than before saying, "Thou Son of David, have mercy on me."

What is the other life's lesson to be learned by this? Christ invites us, He encourages us to come to Him and through our faith we ought not to allow the crowd's opposition and rebukes to deter us from His favours and His blessings. And even though He already knows all our wants, and even more so our needs, we are better provided for when He hears them from us. (v 41).

The prayer of faith of every believer shall not be in vain. This man poured out his soul before the Lord. He received what he had prayed and believed for as Jesus said, "Receive thy sight, thy faith hath saved thee." (v 42) And immediately he received his sight, and followed him, glorifying God: and all the people when they saw it, gave praise unto God. (v 43)

My final thoughts as I conclude this article - Daily we ought to thankfully acknowledge the grace of Christ; we must give praise to God always for His mercies to others as well as for mercies for ourselves. And when in our pursuit of wholeness and happiness in Christ and hosts gather up against us, simply turn to the Lord of hosts who will not only raise up a standard against the enemy but will for your sake and for my sake destroy the army that rose up against us. Sometimes too, God Himself would allow us to become spiritually blind, not to destroy us, but that the works of God would be made manifest in Him. (John 9: 3)

footnote: 1.This article was recorded in the pages of my personal diary in June 2010 following a great fiery trial which God Himself not only delivered me from, but delivered me through. Now released April 19th 2012 . as a source of encouragement, strength and hope in God.

God Is All That And More...

"Thy kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, and thy dominion endureth throughout all generations. (Psalm 145:13)

It cannot be denied, nor will there ever be any chance to challenge that the kingdom of God is an everlasting one! It is unshakable, it is immovable, and there is certainly no end to it. The thrones of princes would tatter and tumble, the flowers of their crowns would wither and die; monarchies shall come to an end, but the Lord our God Omnipotent, Omnipresent, and Omniscient, His kingdom is from everlasting to everlasting.

No matter a man's accolades as he journeys through life, God alone is worthy of all prestigious honour! His royal style and titles are, 'The Lord God, gracious and merciful, full of compassion and slow to anger. (Psalm 145:8) A fountain of goodness is His nature, and streams of greatness in all the dispensation of His providence. He is the crowned King of kings and Lord of lords. He is Majesty, Royalty, the Alpha and Omega whose train fills the temple. I speak of the Creator of all things (visible and invisible), the preserver of all things and the final cause and disposer of all things!

The cherubims and seraphim's serenade His presence, they worship and bow down at His throne 24-7. His Government answers to His titles saying with a loud voice, "Worthy is the Lamb that was slain to receive power, and riches, and wisdom, and strength, and honour, and glory and blessing......be unto him that sitteth upon the throne, and unto the Lamb forever and ever." (Revelation 5:12-13)
I exhort each one to exercise greater diligence in praising God who is all that and more - who is forever blessing us, and doing well for us. His great goodness can never be exhausted, for He will continue to be rich in mercy as He ever was. Whenever we utter His great goodness, let us not forget to sing also of His righteousness for He is kind in rewarding those that serve Him faithfully.

Just as a beautiful building praises the one who built her or the flawless beauty of a picture projects the story while praising her painter, so it is that all the works of God's hands must praise Him. Let us be blessing Him every day and speak well of Him as we converse with each other. God's greatness indeed cannot be comprehended, for it is unsearchable (Psalm 145: 3), but surely we can bless the name of the Lord, for He is all that and more!

Order My Steps!

"In his heart a man plans his course, but the Lord determines his steps." ~ Proverbs 16:9 (NIV) "A man's heart deviseth his way: but the Lord directeth his steps." ~ Proverbs 16:9 (KJV)

Over the years, I have encountered numerous challenging and life changing experiences. Some of the things have brought me to points of near death. Today is really no different! I am not quite to the place where I feel comfortable to share that aspect of my life with others just yet, so for now, I would keep it, and hopefully one day God will give me the grace and the courage, more so the release to disclose it. It is an area of my life that I have been struggling with. It feels like a thorn in the flesh! You may have found yourself at that place, like I have and have questioned God hoping that you would get the answers. Then, it is almost as if He goes silent on you. You hear nothing! What do you do in a case where you feel like you are sinking?

Often times in our lives, we are met with some very difficult any trying moments, that in truth we do not have the answers to the questions that bombards our mind. While I do not have all the answers myself, the hope that I can give to you is through the scripture verse of today.

It is like going to the beach. You know that you can swim, or so you thought. You get your feet wet first in the water, it felt safe so that you walk out as far enough to where you can stand without the water going over your head to cover you. Then all of a sudden you look up, you see the sky darkened and storm clouds begin to form over you. Then before you know it, a sweltering wave comes along and swallows you up in it, and then you are swept away. A few days later, or that's what it seemed like, you find yourself lying flat on your back and you are looking directly into the face of the 'lifeguard' who pulled you from the water and who it seems resuscitated you and breathed a breath of fresh air back into you again. You know that to be true because he is all smiles, his look is reassuring while you stare up at him in great wonder, as if to say, 'what really just happened?'

If this explains what you are going through in life right now (not literally, rather spiritually) like I have just explained then you will understand the word given from Proverbs 16:9 today. I believe that it was a similar situation that the writer encountered in his life.

The question, what do you do? I have found a safe place in the text and that is to totally surrender to God and ask Him once again to order my/your steps. We plan things and we have programs and agendas, but God has the perfect plan for our lives. It may seem as if it is taking a long time, by the number of years that have passed, but recall the scripture in the book of Genesis of how long Abraham and Sarah had to wait before they became pregnant and even gave birth to the promised son.

God is never late, but He is an on time God! Give Him your struggles, hurt, pain and disappointments and grab hold of the anchor of faith and watch what He does next in your life!

What A Difference Prayer Makes

"And when he had opened the seventh seal, there was silence in the heaven about the space of half an hour.........And another angel came and stood at the alter, having a golden censor;..... And the smoke of the incense, which came with the prayers of the saints, ascended up before God out of the angel's hand." ~ (Revelation 8: 1-4)

The words of John the revelatory in this short passage of scripture, came at a time when the graces and comforts of the people of God had just been secured through their prayers, supplication and intercession in a time of common calamity and great tribulation. Similarly, in Rev.7:13-17, we see a description also given of the honour and happiness of those who had faithfully served Christ, and who had suffered for Him.

Then at the opening of the last seal, which was to signify a new set of events, we are told that in the space of one half hour, there followed a great silence in the heaven (Rev.8:1). It was no ordinary silence as one would know it to be. It was a silence and a stillness of great expectation by the saints of God to see what He was doing. Great things were churning on the wheels of providence and the windows of heaven that was once shut up over the people were about to be opened again.
In Rev.8:3, it is expressed that another angel, who had a gold incense container, came and stood at the alter. He was given a lot of incense to add to the prayers of all of God's people and for their prayers to be offered on the gold alter that stands before the throne. The smoke of the burning incense went up with the prayers of  God's people from the hands of the angel that stood before the Lord.

The angels to whom the trumpets were delivered must now begin to blow the trumpets and sound the alarm! The prayers that were once prayers of laments, abandonment, despair, hopelessness, hurt, guilt were now prayers of faith, love, and hope mixed with the sweet smelling fragrance that pleased the Lord. And when at last heaven breaks her silence, the fragrant prayers filled with answers (revelation, transformation, manifestation) were poured out upon the earth.

The message is clear, that those who remain faithful and fervent in prayer, along with those who have been prayed for, must now give back to God all the praise, honour and glory for the victory we have won over evil, suffering, sickness and death, that came as a result of Christ through His own suffering, death and His resurrection from death unto life eternal. True indeed, what a difference prayer makes!

Victory Shall Be Yours

"But Israel shall be saved in the Lord with an everlasting salvation: ye shall not be ashamed nor confounded world without end." (Isaiah 45:17)

As we take time this season to reflect upon Christ's suffering, His death, burial, resurrection and His Ascension, we realize once again how much we as a people have become the beneficiaries at someone else's expense.  The pain was not just any pain, it was gruesome and horrible to say the least. He even gave consideration of how possible it might be to abscond the Father's plan of redemption but in a humble retreat only moments later, He would surrender His total will to God's plan of salvation to bring about a triumphant victory for us today.

Through the cross, God is sure of our victory which His word said shall pour from the sky like rain. The earth is said to be in a state of readiness to open up and to receive it and subsequently it will blossom with freedom and justice for all, it will spring forth with peace, joy, revival, restoration and healing for the nation. We must not expect the salvation without righteousness, for as the word of God says, they both spring up together!

You may not be rich in worldly goods, but sure enough as the word of the Lord has declared, you are exceedingly and abundantly rich in the grace of God.

Have a blessed Easter!

Your Tears Are Never Wasted

Your tears are not wasted....it is said that tears are our language that God only understands. Tears are bottled by angels and are precious to God. His word tells us that they that sow in tears shall reap the harvest in great joy. The psalmist David actually said this, "Thou tellest my wanderings: put thou my tears into thy bottle: are they not in thy book?" ~ Psalm 56: 8 To that I say: ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!

The time will come eventually when those same tears God will turn them into His FAVOUR and pour upon you blessings that you will not have room enough to contain because God Himself will swallow up death in victory. God will wipe away tears from all faces. (Isaiah 25:8)

Many other things have been seen and heard by others who have both testified and assured us of the wonderful promises of God. Through them God continues to give us the comfort as revealed by His Spirit. He says, "They [God's people] shall hunger no more, neither thirst anymore; neither shall the sun light on them, nor any heat. For the Lamb [Jesus Christ Himself] which is in the midst of the throne shall feed them, and shall  lead them into living fountains of waters; and God shall wipe away ALL TEARS from their eyes." ~ Revelation 7:16-17

To God be all the glory, dominion, honour and power. The one who was, who is and for evermore shall be!

And He Said, "I've Got You, That's Right, I've Got You"

"Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee. (Isaiah 26:3) Now unto him that is able to keep you from falling, and to present you faultless before the presence of his glory with exceeding joy, The only wise God our Saviour, be glory and majesty, dominion and power, both now and ever. Amen." (Jude 1: 24-25)

The title of today's devotional blog, which reads in part, "I've Got You, That's Right, I've Got You," are what I consider to be the most comforting and reassuring words spoken to me by God my Father through His Holy Spirit at a time when I really needed Him. It was such a beautiful encounter as I sat there that morning at my office desk at work! I knew prior to that, as a matter of fact, over the days that led up to this on Thursday, March 29th 2012, that all was not well on the inside of me. The warning signs were there, the red flag went up as my body began to indicate to me in different ways that it was in 'overdrive,' that 'I needed to slow down my pace, and be still for a moment,' 'that I needed to get some rest,' 'that it's perhaps best to go to the doctor for a check-up.' The swelling in my lower extremities were glaringly obvious, yet on the other hand, I kept on telling myself and listening to the voice of reasoning, "Okay, maybe it is not all that serious so I will do this one last thing, and then I will go to my appointment."

The work day ended at approximately 4:30pm and as I drove miles away to get my youngest daughter off to college, my body was once again speaking and later on that evening would prove me so wrong when I said, "maybe it was not all that serious." So wrong I was that even after sleeping for about two and a half hours un-interrupted, I would wake up with a heart racing at a rate beyond what is considered normal and a blood pressure way out of control. The headache was throbbing loud, enough that I felt the sensation of it through my ear drums. The drive to the emergency room (ER) was not long. But as I sat there waiting to be triaged by the Nurse and then for the Doctor to see me, and all throughout the long dark still night thereafter, all I kept on hearing was, "I've got you," (me a smile then followed by the tears as they rolled down my face, again I heard these words) "That's right, I've got you."

Today I stopped by to encourage you, that whatever storm that you may be faced with, that God, the same one who I just spoke of who helped me in and out of my distress, that HE IS REAL! There is no mountain too high that He cannot reach you, and no valley too low that He cannot get under to reach you with the power of His blood. Your valley may be dark and you cannot seem to find your way out, but JESUS, HE IS THE LIGHT OF THE WORLD. He is right there to light up your pathway, if you too would be still for a moment that He can speak and give you the directions you need to get out. His promise is to keep you in perfect peace, just let your mind be stayed upon Him. God is bigger than sickness, He is bigger than all your hang-ups and all your fears. God is bigger than any mountain that you can or cannot see! He is the one who walked on water, defying all the odds of nature! He is the same one who spoke to the winds and the waves and commanded them, "Peace, be still," and they obeyed! He is the same one who shut the mouth of the lions and delivered Daniel from the lions' den. He is the fourth man in the fire as in the case with Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego and delivered them without a burn or smell of smoke.

I am out of that valley of sickness and death today and out of the danger zone that I was in a few days ago, not because of any good that I have done but because of  God's grace, mercy, His love, faithfulness and His kindness. His plan was never for us to perish, but for us to have everlasting life through Jesus Christ His Son. All the glory, praise, honour, dominion, majesty and power be unto Him the immortal, invisible and the only wise God, that even after the error of our ways, that He would still wash us in His blood, forgive us and present us faultless before the presence of His glory with great joy!

Thanks be to God and may His blessings continue to flow into your heart, life and home.
